More Coal and More Greenhouse Gas Emissions

More Coal and More Greenhouse Gas Emissions

We’re apparently not close to moving away from fossil fuels if the current dirty coal plant building boom is any indication. A recent Associated Press assessment of U.S. Department of Energy records and information provided by utilities and trade groups revealed that at least 30 traditional style coal plants have either been completed or have broken ground since 2008.

The construction boom in traditional coal burning plants appears to provide confirmation of three industry beliefs:

* The first being that power generation from “clean coal” is still years off. Put forward with great promise as a domestic source of clean power generation, clean coal has not gotten any traction in terms of replacing standard coal burning methodologies.

* The second is that renewable energy sources aren’t advanced enough to meet energy demands efficiently.

* Lastly, that carbon emission regulation will not be enacted in the near term, if at all. The last carbon emission bill make it to the Senate was rejected on both sides of the aisle as Democrats from coal mining states sided with Republicans to defeat the bill.

Hoping for the development of equipment that could capture greenhouse gasses emitted from the burning of coal, the Obama administration allocated $3.4 billion in stimulus spending to build the foundation for the construction of “clean-coal” plants. The tacit rejection of the program has now become pretty clear considering that the money spent on traditional coal plants totals more than 10 times that amount at $35 billion.

Utilities are justifying these expenditures on burning dirty coal by pointing to the abundance, domestic availability, and lower cost of coal versus natural gas and nuclear energy. Utilities are also standing by coal as a more reliable and cost effective energy source than intermittent or inconsistent power sources like as wind and solar. These characteristics are the primary reasons for coal being responsible for providing about half of the nation’s power.

Despite its abundance, these coal powered plants could cost consumers up to 30% more due to the costs of building the new plants. Representatives from the utilities building the plants say those increases would be even steeper if they were forced to utilize more expensive fuels or if carbon emissions were regulated.

While supporters for clean sources of energy may be frustrated by the ongoing coal plant construction, they can at least take heart in the fact that campaigns to limit the coal rush have had their share of success. The 32 plants either finished or started over the last two years pale in comparison to the 150 coal burning plants which were projected, with many being turned back through lawsuits and other legal challenges.

The bad news is that the plants which have either gone online or are about to will produce about 125 million tons of greenhouse gases per year, according to emissions figures from the sponsoring utilities and the Center for Global Development. That’s the equivalent of putting over 20 million additional …

Acupressure Can Induce Labor

Acupressure Can Induce Labor

Are you nearing the end of your pregnancy? Are you eagerly preparing for the arrival of your new baby? Are you also feeling a little anxious at the thought of having a medical induction? Well, you don’t have to. You have probably heard of many tips and remedies to induce labor naturally and I am sure you have come across acupressure. Acupressure can induce labor but not only that, it is also a very effective pain relief method during labor that works without slowing down labor.

The theory behind acupressure is similar to that of acupuncture but without the needles. Acupressure stimulates specific points in the body which in turn stimulates the nervous system to release hormones that start contractions and induce babies head is encouraged to descend and engage earlier.

Is there any evidence that it works? The Complementary Therapy and Medicine Journal published a study in 2005. Women using acupressure went into labor more often and for a shorter time than the women were not using any acupressure techniques.

With respect to pain relief, acupressure not only relieves the pain but also does not slow down labor. This is one of the concerns with using medical pain relief such as epidurals. The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine published a study in 2004. This study showed that by stimulating one single pressure point, labor pain was significantly reduced.

Maternity acupressure is an extremely simple hands-on involves the use fingers and thumbs to apply pressure onto specific, sensitive pressure points on the body called acupressure points. During labor, acupressure can be used to strengthen contractions and help the cervix to dilate. These shortens the labor process.

With simple basic instructions on where the pressure points are and how to apply pressure to them, you can safely use maternity acupressure at home to naturally induce your labor.Acupressure can induce labor and is now a recommended method of self inducing by midwives and health professionals.…

Speed Boat Fuel Saving Hints

Speed Boat Fuel Saving Hints

A day’s fun with friends or family should always have to be costly. Most argue that since you can afford to purchase a craft, you care less for fuel cost. As an owner, this is not always the case. Here’s how you can save on fuel with your boat:

Fuel saving begins in choosing the correct boat. Forgive me if this sounds like a remedial but this is significant and if you can bear with me here, you’ll see my point. When obtaining a vessel, you must consider the length of the boat and the type of engine it uses. Obviously, length means higher fuel consumption as it is heavier and creates more air and water drag depending on the brand and the purpose. It is important, as a consequence, that you do your investigation on different types of craft. There are not much of them in the marketplace; this ought not to be so hard.

Common conception is, larger engine equals higher fuel intake. Although there is some true to it, what really decides the amount of fuel it consumes is the weight of the load. The guideline is, size your boat the right way founded on the volume of load and the variety of activity that you plan do 75% of the time. Never buy a small one if you are going to panel 10 people on it. A smaller boat with smaller engine is created for a particular number of individuals. Overloading the boat forces the engine to work harder and thus, consuming more fuel. Also, assess if you want a gasoline or diesel engine boats.

Doing the required maintenance not just prolongs the life of your boat, it also keeps the fuel intake at the proper level. Skipping maintenance cycle also cuts down on resale value of your boat and may give you studying the water from the bay instead of on the water enjoying a good summer day.

Don’t bring unnecessary things. These total to the weight and increase fuel consumption. Just bring what you need and remove all those things that you have not moved for years.

Remove things that can lead to air drag and increase water resistance. Convertible tops with sides on as well as hard water deposits and algae decrease fuel economy. Buy as little canvas as possible (without compromising comfort) and remove objects from the hull C objects that shouldn’t be there.

Most producers put standard propellers that are suited for normal operating conditions. Upgrading your propeller to high functioning one made from aluminum or stainless steel can improve the operation of your boat and save considerable fuel. When changing propeller though, invite professional advice on what’s right for your boat.

Saving money on boat is barely half the fight. The other half or the first half begins at the garage. Before leaving, make certain that your trailer is correctly inflated. Under-inflated trailer tires in addition to tires of your vehicle can increase fuel uptake …

Hydrogen Powered Cars – The Fuel-Efficient Cars

Hydrogen Powered Cars – The Fuel-Efficient Cars

Standing on the phase where the fuel depletion is the major problem of all country, Hydrogen Powered cars had come as blessing. Hydrogen Powered Cars are now denoted as cars of the future though it’s invention can be traced back in past. In 1807 Francois Isaac de Rivaz designed the first Hydrogen car but it had some problem and not even patented. Many experiments were taken in this field from then on and finally in 1970 Paul Dieges patented the invention.

Some of the Hydrogen Powered Cars use hydrogen fuel cell while some have converted gasoline powered combustion engine. Fiberforge manufactured the earliest Hydrogen Powered Car; they called it as “Revolution”. Experiment came out as a method of producing ultra-lightweight automobiles using carbon composites. But it too faced many problems. They realized that they have to reduce the weight of the car for better fuel mileage.

There are many big companies in market who want to take advantage of this fuel crisis. Audi, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagen, BMW are just few companies who are planning to launch Hydrogen Powered Cars. BMW HR2 claims to be “world’s fastest hydrogen car” exceeding 185mph. It does not operate on fuel cell. It uses modified 6-litre, 12 cylinder combustion engine for its propulsion. While Honda claims to make more efficient fuel cell car that can go 220 miles before it need next refueling as compared to 90 miles per tank limit for the Mercedes. Mercedes F600 Hygenius Concept Car is powered by hydrogen fuel cell and uses regenerative braking to recapture energy and recharge batteries.

In 2005 Honda gave first glimpse of Hydrogen Powered car, FCX, which was not more than a prototype. The car was never placed in the market. Honda is now coming with its new FCX Clarity, which runs on hydrogen and electricity, with light body weight and more interior room. They are planning to place more than 200 cars on road in coming three years. John Mendel, executive vice president at America Honda Motor Company, called on this occasion “an especially significant day for American Honda as we plant firm footsteps towards the main streaming of fuel cell cars.”

Pros and cons: –

Hydrogen Powered Cars are fuel-efficient cars. Chemical energy of hydrogen converted in fuel power in internal engine as it reacts in fuel cell with oxygen. Hydrogen fuel is energy carrier and not the source. Electrolysis of water is being used to produce fuel. The only by product it give is water. Thus it is eco-friendly with zero emission. It will save money on fuel and also lessen our dependence on OPEC. It will increase car performance as well as gas mileage. And to promote these cars, buyers will receive nice tax break.

The Hydrogen Powered Cars face some challenges too. The consumers have to pay huge amount to posses one of these cars. Therefore manufacturers have to use less expensive technology without ignoring the safety measures. There have to …

Getting to Grips With a Warehouse Management System

Getting to Grips With a Warehouse Management System

A warehouse management system, also known as a WMS, facilitates and controls the movement and storage of materials housed within a warehouse. These systems automate transactions and allow stock to be located, quantities of stock to be assessed, and warehouse tasks to be directed.

As a matter of fact, due to the advanced technology of warehouse management systems, all warehousing functions can be optimized. This optimization can include all inventory movements, as well as the provision of all information flowing in between the movement of inventory.

Warehouse management systems are being used by, and are of great use to all types of businesses. While businesses of all sizes use them, small to mid-sized business have been showing a growing interest in these systems. Even though smaller to mid-sized businesses may have less inventory to keep track of than larger businesses may, the streamlining facilitated by a warehouse management system is still of great usefulness to them. These systems allow for the faster movement of product, which in turn improves the bottom line of any business.

The integration of a WMS within an organization results in improved operating practice overall. It allows space within a warehouse to be maximized, and allows for the more effective use of labour, equipment and inventory. Once a warehouse management system is implemented, an improvement in the accuracy of inventory, as well as an improvement in flexibility results. Of course labor costs are reduced, and customer service in enhanced.

The process by which information can be updated in electronic inventory, due to the integration of a WMS results in higher levels of accurate results. The accuracy of WMS results allows for a reduction in the amount of red tape within a business, as well as the altering of inventory information in a streamlined, simple manner.

Captured electronic data can be used for the purpose of monitoring the working practices within a business. This in turn ensures that the merchandise is always replenished when necessary, making the taking of physical inventories unnecessary. Manual data entry can result in errors. However, electronic operations involving warehouse stock through warehouse management systems, results in a greatly reduced rate of error, or even no rate of error at all.

The benefits resulting from the use of such a system can help in allowing a business to become an authority within an industry. Use of a WMS results in the ability for a business to better serve a market, while optimized warehouse management results in an improvement of all facets of an operation.…

HHO Cell Cars – Imagine Feeling Calm When Everyone Else’s Panics When the Gas Prices Rise!

The world has been hearing about the HHO cell car for quite some time now and everyone wants to see it on the roads soon. But the fact is that these cars are already on the streets in many countries in the world like USA. Hydrogen cars have recently been launched by the leading car manufacturers BMW and General Motors. In fact thirteen such cars by General Motors can be spotted in Washington, which also includes six minivans.

Few car manufacturers like Toyota, Nissan, Daimler Chrysler and Honda have designed special hydrogen powered vehicles to be used in the Army. BMW has come up with its own series whereas Ford’s HHO car, “Focus” is still in the manufacturing stage.

You don’t need to worry about gas mileage once you own one of these cars. They help in cutting down on the fuel cost as hydrogen is cheap and affordable. However there is no need to panic if you can’t afford these cars, you can still get your car converted with the help of hydrogen fuel kits. The kit is reasonably priced and it is definitely a good investment considering its long term advantages.

General Motors is planning to launch few alternative hydrogen cars by 2010. These alternative cars are priced like other internal combustion cars but use hydrogen as fuel. There is severe shortage of hydrogen stations all over the world and for this Shell and General Motors have joined hands. Shell has been actively involved in setting up hydrogen fuel stations to meet the demand. The projection is that for every 200,000 cars, the world will need approximately 300 hydrogen stations.

You can notice a few hydrogen buses running in European cities like Amsterdam, Porto, Madrid, Stockholm, Stuttgart and London. They were launched in 2004 by Daimler Chrysler. Such hho cell-powered vehicles are expected to take over the automobile industry in the coming years!…

Productivity Benchmarking – A Powerful Tool for Management Teams

Productivity Benchmarking – A Powerful Tool for Management Teams

Department productivity benchmarking is one of the most powerful and versatile tools available to progressive hospital management teams. Here are just a few of its uses.

As a Cost Management Tool: Labor costs remain the largest single component of any hospital’s expense budget. Managing labor costs is important for both financial and moral stewardship reasons. Department productivity benchmarking is an important first step in identifying and resolving excessive labor costs.

As an Overall Performance Screening Tool: Staffing variances are a marker for potential performance issues that go far beyond excessive labor costs. Departments frequently “staff up” to overcome operating problems caused by everything from organizational cultural issues and resource inadequacies to work process factors. Departments that consume an abnormal amount of labor resources because of these factors are more often than not also struggling with quality, physician and patient satisfaction, employee relations and community image issues. Done correctly, department productivity benchmarking will help identify those departments in the most need of management action.

As a Management Data Set Validation Method: More than sixty percent of U.S. hospitals are managing with inadequate or inaccurate management information. A systematic review of data, performed during the course of the benchmarking process, will identify errors in the management data set leading to better decisions.

As a Change Management Resource: Is your team in the process of building a new organizational culture to meet today’s challenges? Productivity benchmarking serves as an essential component of any serious management initiative to transform the classic hospital culture. Hospitals that routinely and systematically benchmark department productivity are communicating powerful performance expectations with action as well as words.

Modern technology has placed annual department productivity benchmarking within the easy reach of every hospital management team. Major changes take place in the hospital almost every day. How current are your department productivity benchmarks?…

Warehouse Management System – RFID Gains Significance

Warehouse Management System – RFID Gains Significance

Warehouse management is an integral component of supply chain and has assumed significant importance in today’s era. It covers host number of activities under its realm like moving of goods and materials, tracking, picking and packing, maintaining the inventory level etc. The process also involves checking for huge number of boxes along with their product code, packaging no and entering them which being performed manually consumes a lot of time and leads to paperwork.

In a bid remain competitive and harness growth in today’s global environment; companies have started implementing RFID systems in their warehouses. RFID which stands for Radio frequency identification uses radio waves to exchange data between a reader and an electronic tag attached to an object, for the purpose of tracking and identification. It consists of three basic components, viz. RFID tag, RFID reader and the necessary software and hardware for communication. The tag consists of a microchip which is attached to a radio antenna and is placed on the object to be identified. To retrieve the data stored on the tag, An Rfid reader is used which passes information to a computer system put in place for data collection with the help of antennas emitting radio waves. The data transmitted by the tag may provide identification or location information, or specifics about the product tagged, such as price, color, date of purchase, etc

RFID tagging is used in supply chain management as an alternative to bar code technology. Although more expensive to use than the bar code stickers RFID tags don’t get dirty or fall off or require an unobstructed line-of-sight between the tag and the reader. As compared to a barcode reader which demands for clean, clear optics and abrasion free label to be seen by lasers, RFID enables tag reading from a greater distance, even in the harsh of environments. With the help of RFID manufacturers, distributors, and retailers can maintain extremely low levels of inventory and keep a proper track record as to what has been sold in the last business day. Furthermore the system also facilitates automatic data entry rather than manually making entries of the stock on paper first and then into the computer which saves a lot of time and human efforts. The technology possesses the capability of detecting missing shipments and alert the management which leads to a better control over the movement and storage of materials within the warehouse. This also helps in maximizing the efficiency of the receipt and shipment of goods, allowing employees to improve and maintain high customer service levels.

The global world is seeing a constant change and new challenges are emerging within the logistics sector. In a bid remain competitive and tap the growing opportunities. Companies need to bring a change in the traditional style of functioning and implement modern systems and technologies.…

Losing Weight By Eating Right

Losing Weight By Eating Right

Eating several small meals a day is better than eating 1 – 3 large meals. Our actual stomachs are very small and can only hold a small amount of food at a time. Generally, this is just enough food to give us the nutrients we need to live (if fed properly). Unless we constantly eat way too much and acclimate our stomach to a larger amount of food, that is. The quickest way to shrink your stomach to the proper size and to only accept smaller amounts of food to get you on the right track is through a cleanse. Eating several small meals throughout the day (5 – 6) will help your metabolism and blood sugar remain in balance to help your body burn fat continuously throughout the day. When you consume 1 – 3 large meals your body uses what it needs and stores the rest as fat to be burned some other time. But, it’s really difficult to burn that stored fat. Hence, why it is so difficult to lose weight.

Starving yourself has adverse reactions on your body as well. Yes, your body will begin to burn that stored fat, but when you do eat, your body will use the least amount of that food for fuel as it can and store the rest as fat in preparation for ‘starvation mode’.

I like to use the car analogy for this. Would you run your car on empty? It would stop running, right? Just like a car, our bodies need fuel – the right fuel. The more often we give our bodies the right fuel the better it will run, the healthier it will be, and the longer we will live. Our bodies are quite smart… we need to work with it, not against it.

I know what you’re thinking; I don’t have the time to eat several small meals a day. My response is this: just try it. Prepare several small snacks for yourself the night before – carrots, apples, oranges, nuts (nuts are very good for you!!), etc. Have them peeled, cut, etc. and in individual containers / bags. If they’re ready to go when you are in the morning, then you’re more likely to grab them when you leave. I also recommend, at least for the first couple weeks, to leave your debit / credit cards / cash at home (with the exception of gas money that you need) so that you aren’t tempted to just go ‘grab something’ from the fast food joint down the street from your office.

Once your eating better you’ll notice a difference in how you feel. You’ll be more awake, aware of your surroundings, in a better mood (without even trying!), and you won’t feel so sluggish. Not to mention that since you’re not eating out as much, not eating the crap, you’ll lose weight!!…

Warehouse Management Systems

Warehouse Management Systems

Warehouse Management Systems or WMS are put in place to help control the storage and movement of the materials within the warehouse. They are a vital part of the supply chain and control processes within the warehouse such as shipping and picking & packing. Also based on real time the systems help to direct and optimize stock.

The main purpose of a warehouse management system is primarily to control movement and storage of materials in a warehouse.

WMS provides computerized procedures which deal with the receipt of stock & returns into the warehouse facility. It also enables a link to the ordering processes and logistics enabling ordering, picking, packing and shipping the product out of the warehouse.

Some WMS are stand-alone systems, whilst others are modules of an ERP (Enterprising Resource Planning) system or supply chain execution suite.

Many systems will often use data capture technology such as ;

o Mobile scanners

o Radio frequency identification ( RFID )

o Wireless LANS

o Barcode scanners

The use of this technology helps to efficiently monitor the flow of products.

When the data has been collected it is transmitted to a central database, and this database will then provide important and useful reports on the status of the goods within the warehouse.

It deals with the movement, storage, and receipt of warehouse goods to temporary or intermediate storage locations or to the final customer.

Good efficient warehouse management can make a lot of difference to a retail chain distribution company. It should start with initial planning of container design for a specific product. Both warehouse and process design within the warehouse is also an important part of good warehouse management.

The primary objective of warehouse management is to optimize order fulfilment and cost of time by managing the available resources economically. visit https://sanka7a.com/.…

Anyone Can Build Homemade Solar Panels

Anyone Can Build Homemade Solar Panels

Did you know that it’s now possible for anyone to build homemade solar panels? Did you know that this incredible form of free electricity is making its way into more and more homes around the globe every day? Did you know it can often be done for under $200?

Personally I think the best thing about this is that you do not need to be some kind of scientist nor do you need to be some kind of DIY expert. I can only just about put the shelf up in my house and yet I can manage to do this! Many good solar panel kits are very simple to follow, construct and complete. The most scientific parts are the photovoltaic cells and of course when you purchase these male already constructed.

A simple search on Google will find you loads of different kits for constructing your solar cells. There are many different sizes in many different price ranges that generate different amounts of wattage. But whichever one you choose within a few days you can have a solar panel on the roof of your house generating power for you every time the sun shines.

Even on cloudy days the suns UV rays can be converted into electricity for lighting your home, heating your water, charging your cell phone or just about anything you want. But some of the home build kits are not always the best so it is advisable to choose wisely.

Just like flat pack furniture it is all too common to find that a vital part missing from your pack and it is all too common to get a set of instructions that don’t make any sense. If you are thinking of purchasing a ‘ready-to-assemble’ kit then it may be a good idea to head to a hardware store where you can check everything over before you buy it.

There are some great options in most hardware stores, however you will be paying top dollar for these kits. If you find the right instructions online you will be able to purchase all of the parts separately for a fraction of the normal cost.

People that do this can often get all the parts they need, ready to generate free electricity for sometimes under $200. If cutting down on your fuel bills is something that sounds interesting and perhaps you should look into how you can build homemade solar panels too.…

Failure or Success – Let Your Mind Decide With the Help of Positive Affirmations!

Failure or Success – Let Your Mind Decide With the Help of Positive Affirmations!

The choice between failure or success lies in you. Or rather, in your mind. Most people think that they are simply slaves to the fates of this world, that they do not have a say in what they ultimately turn out as. Do they become successful or do they fail?

1. Recognize the problem in the old way of thinking. There is a common belief that we already have our destinies planned out for us, and there’s little much we can do about it. If you think that way, then the tendency is for the mind to lose hope and lose the motivation to strive hard. After all, why would you bother to work hard if fate has already decided your future for you anyway?

2. Revamp your state of here’s a welcome new concept: your mind has the power to decide whether you fail or succeed. And since you can have control over your mind, this means you can choose an outcome for your life. It’s all a matter of belief.

In a nutshell, failure and success are simply products of your mind. Your mind has the power to propel you to success if only it finds enough fuel to keep you going. And it also has the tendency to slack off and lead the way towards failure if it gets the wrong directions.

And this fuel, the directions – they all come from you. So the question is, what kind of fuel are you feeding your mind with? Is it positive fuel or negative fuel? If you’re running on negative fuel, no matter how hard you work, you are on your way towards failure. And the more you fail, the more the brain will expect to fail. And the more failure to expect, the more failure will certainly come.

But what if you are running on positive fuel? It will give you everything you need to reach success. This includes motivation, encouragement, willpower, and so on. And this positive fuel that you need is just the right state of mind, the right mental programming.

3. Fill up with positive fuel. So how can you fill your tank with positive fuel and go down the straight road towards success? Positive affirmations, positive thoughts and statements that you fill up your mind with, are exactly the type of fuel you need. These positive statements, once embedded into the mind, turn into actual belief systems. And when your mind starts believing in positive things, it already does what it can to generate these beliefs into reality.

The equation is simple: positive statements bring positive results, while negative statements bring negative results. So the decision as to whether you fail or succeed lies in your mind, and with positive affirmations, you can control your mind. This means, you don’t have to live out a life that has already been predetermined for you. Failure or success – you are free …

One may want to automate their storehouse operations for the first time or even improve on existing systems. This calls for an informed choice to enable the owner to achieve the greatest benefits of this upgrade.

To get the right reseller to help in this project, verify their knowledge about storehouse operations like how it is managed, how to manage customer relationship, accounting and integration of these functions with wireless data collection systems. They therefore need to be experienced in software implementation suitable for the specific business.

Look for those ready to give a complete service package. This includes technical support, training and maintenance of the new installation. This is important since the product is to stay in use for long-term and hence their services will be required for the same period. Their ability to listen to the business needs of their client is also paramount. This will affect efficacy of the solution they offer to those needs.

Let the reseller tell the features of the product they are selling and its benefits to your organization. Otherwise, there are many systems in the market today and one may not exactly what to choose. How to Maintain Your Hybrid

How to Maintain Your Hybrid

It always helps to get the basic understanding of hybrids before deciding to own one. Most people know they are fuel-efficient and of course, that is true.

However, since they are not exactly the same as the mainstream vehicles we’re used to, there may be questions about whether it costs more to maintain a hybrid vehicle. Though the difference is not huge, there may be question s about what it costs to maintain the battery or how much it would cost to replace it if necessary. We cover these questions in other articles so feel free to look through the site and put your mind at ease.

The gulf between conventional vehicles and hybrid vehicles is not so huge. In fact, when it comes to their routine maintenance, the difference is minimal. The difference only really applies to the electric drive motor and the systems that control the storage batteries. In this article, we will cover the basics.

One of the fundamental differences when comparing full hybrid vehicles to conventional vehicles are their ability to shut off the internal combustion engines and operate solely on the electric motor. Because of the option, the hybrid’s engine doesn’t work as hard. This results in reduced wear and the engine lasts longer. Many hybrids employ regenerative braking systems that charge the batteries and reduce wear on brake components.

Where Exactly Do Hybrids Differ?

Hybrids differ in their drive train. The different parts of the drive train are designed to work together. If there is a malfunction in one component then all the components are affected. The internal combustion engine, electric drive motor and transmission are designed to work as one entity If one of these malfunction the function of the others could be affected. This is not a do it yourself job unless you happen to be a professional yourself. If your have any serious problems with any of the parts in the drive train, make sure you take it to a repair center certified to handle hybrid engines and their related systems.

Quick Tip:

Aside from serious drive train repairs, you can perform the other parts of your car maintenance such as checking your hybrid’s transmission fluid, changing out spark plugs and filters. To go any deeper than this is not recommended unless you are a professional with a thorough knowledge of hybrids.

The Electronics Under The Hood

There are generally separate cooling systems for the electronic modules that control the drive motor for propulsion and regenerative braking. These compartments generate great deals of heat. Having separate cooling systems help to keeps its complex heating systems from overheating.

Quick Tip:

It’s important to check the individual hoses, pipes and clamps when you do regular maintenance on the engine cooling system. You also want to check any additional filters used on the motor and battery cooling or heating system.

Be Safe – Beware The Orange

Most hybrids have dual voltage systems. Though the greater part of the electrical …

Does Cloud Reign?

Does Cloud Reign?

Does choosing a cloud based WMS limit your opportunities to grow?

Many suppliers have recently been promoting the advantages of cloud based Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), but is this a case of jumping on the bandwagon without considering all the implications?

For a smaller business with a manual warehouse operation, cloud technology initially appears to makes sense in many respects, particularly when combined with a software as a service (SaaS) payment option. Cloud systems benefit from a large scale IT infrastructure with applications running on virtual servers hosted remotely from the warehouse site. The disaster recovery plan is already in place and the customer does not need to worry about maintaining servers on site.

To get the real benefit of a WMS you need real time responses to the warehouse transactions, usually this involves RF terminals to promote accuracy in receipt, storage, picking and despatch operations. RF terminals require an RF infrastructure, the maintenance of which needs to be someone’s responsibility. It’s possible to outsource this support to your WMS provider or third party, but how long can you afford for the operation, or at least part of it, to be out of service while they respond with a site visit? A cloud based WMS also needs a reliable internet connection and an internal IT infrastructure to connect local PCs and peripheral equipment. So in reality someone on site needs to be responsible for internal IT support regardless.

These are not uncommon arguments against use of a cloud WMS. However one key argument always seems to be overlooked. Most businesses have aspirations to grow, and growth generally requires increased throughput and improved efficiency. So what happens when you realise that to get these improvements you need to move to some level of automation, no matter how simple?

The general opinion is that you need to have an on-site Warehouse Control System (WCS) to integrate and control the materials handling equipment (MHE). So now you have a WMS hosted remotely and a WCS hosted locally, communicating over the internet, which can mean you’re paying for two systems, often from two suppliers.

Many WMS vendors specifically avoid any responsibility for WCS functionality, focusing only on non-automated operations. However this can preclude their customers from receiving the benefits that come with efficient use of MHE.

The question that needs to be asked when considering a cloud based WMS should really be “Do I want my business to grow and will this system limit that?”

This is not to say that cloud computing will not have a huge impact on how we share and manage data. Hybrid cloud computing in which enterprises extend their resources to public clouds may well be the trend of the future. In addition to providing reliability and scalability of public clouds, hybrid cloud computing has the appeal of providing the most suitable environment for some applications, such as databases, that run better on a dedicated server than on a shared server. What is important as with …

How to Optimize Your Warehouse

How to Optimize Your Warehouse

For someone who is a wholesale supplier or distributor, one of the major issues which he often comes across is managing the warehouse. Warehouse management plays an important role in the success and failure or a wholesale suppliers or a distributor. Therefore, they need to optimize their warehouse. What does optimizing the warehouse means? It means to make the warehouse operations efficient, utilizing the warehouse space optimally and managing the inventory to its best.

Following are some ways through which wholesale suppliers or distributors can optimize their warehouse:

Efficient warehouse design

The very first thing for optimizing your warehouse is its design. Sometimes the wholesalers and distributors do not consider the design of the warehouse. What happens then? It creates problems for them while storing the wholesale products and supplies and sometimes it makes the expansion impossible. Therefore, the warehouse should be designed perfectly so that it allows optimally utilizing the warehouse and supports expansion in future as well.

Optimally utilizing warehouse space

After the design of the warehouse the next important thing which a wholesale supplier or distributor needs to do is to utilize the warehouse space properly. Here the warehouse racking and the way the wholesale products and supplies are stored plays an important role. Pallet racking method is so far the best for optimally utilizing the warehouse space. So, the wholesalers and distributors must use it. What a wholesale supplier or distributors needs to do is to store as many products in the warehouse as possible and utilizing the warehouse space properly allows them to do so.

Managing the inventory properly

Properly managing the inventory allows the wholesalers to optimally utilize the warehouse. If the wholesalers are able to sell their inventory quickly they can bring in the new supplies timely and can sell the newer products to the customers and make the best use of their warehouse. Other than that using first in first out method, also called FIFO, is really beneficial for managing the inventory and making the best use of the warehouse space.

Utilizing warehouse out of season

Some wholesale suppliers or distributors deal in seasonal wholesale products. During the off season period usually their warehouse remains empty. What they can do to maximize the benefit of their warehouse is to rent out their warehouse to other wholesale distributors and suppliers. This allows them to generate some income from their warehouse during the off season period as well.

All the above mentioned techniques help a wholesale supplier or distributor to optimize their warehouse easily.…

Warehouse Management and Warehousing Services

Warehouse Management and Warehousing Services

Generally situated near to major transport links and located in industrial areas, a warehousing store is built and equipped to facilitate the logistics of goods/items/products of all dimensions, often in cargo containers, or stacked on pallets. It is a business enterprise and the warehouses are holding spaces for products and items coming in, going out and for storage over a set period of time.

A warehouse helps in processing, washing and customized manufacturing, thereby affording warehousing procedures to operate smoothly. As a result, warehousing services are accomplished well, ending in satisfied clientele. You will get a number of warehousing services that operate hand in hand, involving logistics, transportation by road, sea and air, and shipping of goods.

At a warehouse, you will likewise find inventory control and freight consolidation services. A warehouse will aid in the provision of general merchandise warehousing to give short-term flexibility. These warehousing management and services include retention of records, preparation of variable cost structure accounts, and the distribution of end products. Also included are kitting, pick and pack operations, and labeling.

For the various warehousing services to function effectively, there needs to be consistency in the chain of supply.

Various companies will give you a personalized attention as their client. Their warehousing services are geared towards fulfilling your particular needs. Other companies act as third party logistics integrators who find different special offers and choose suitable practical partners to offer customized and flexible supply chain solutions. Such warehousing companies offer freight bill auditing, export processing, industry updates and distribution planning, and optimization.

There is need for a professional approach by freight brokers as concerns transportation services with warehousing companies. Such services comprise cross-docking and fulfillment services. The warehousing companies offer Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), which helps in the promotion of programs in the testing of quality assurance.

Some companies provide links to public warehousing and contract warehousing services for shippers and manufacturers. They also provide damage prevention consulting resources. Public warehousing’s pricing is based on the usage factor. This means that you pay only for what you use for space and labour. The costs are relatively higher than for contract warehousing, because the warehousing companies absorb the risks.

In contract warehousing, it is the owner of the goods who absorbs some of the risks. He makes a commitment to pay required fees regardless of whether he uses the space or not. The sharing of risks between the owner and warehousing company results in a lower cost.…

Fleet Cars – Should Companies Pick Or Let Employees Pick?

Fleet Cars – Should Companies Pick Or Let Employees Pick?

Choosing cars for your fleet is often a complicated decision. There are so many different elements to consider and so many different types of cars available. The main problem that people usually face is whether they should be purchasing their own fleet cars or if they should be letting the employees pick the cars that they want. This isn’t a fashion contest, though, and companies can often get better deals when they buy certain cars in large quantities. Therefore, it might be simpler and cheaper to pick the cars for yourself.

If you let employees pick their cars, you will have dozens of different people who want dozens of different cars. You might not be able to get as good of a discount when you do this, and you will have to keep track of all of the different makes and models that are available. Giving people the freedom to choose can make a significant difference, because it makes them feel like they are more a part of the decision. One way to meet in the middle with this issue is to choose two models of fleet cars and then let employees pick which they prefer.

For example, if you own a retail corporation, letting district managers choose between a minivan or a station wagon (because each has room for transporting products, displays, shelving, etc.) will give them the personalization that they deserve without completely compromising your purchase discounts. You can get two or three models that a fleet car dealer will give you a good rate on and then let people pick which model they prefer. Of course, this requires you to take the time to fill everyone in on the options and wait for them to decide, but it is a way to include employees in the selection.

Choosing your own fleet cars is going to be much easier and involve less hassle. You can stick with one model or a couple of models and then issue them to whomever you like as you see fit. While your employees might not appreciate this method, they will be thankful that they at least have a company car to drive. Make sure that you check out things like fuel economy, maintenance and productivity, and other elements to choose the best cars available so that you can buy the best cars on the market. Letting employees pick is a nice idea, but won’t always produce the best results for your business.…

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Generator – How Fuel Cell Energy Works

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Generator – How Fuel Cell Energy Works

It didn’t take long for the hydrogen fuel cell generator to become popular. Yet there is still very little known about how these devices actually work. Through out this post we are going to go over a few of the key points about hydrogen fuel generators and how they work. We are also going to be going over how hydrogen and fuel cells just might change your life for the better.

How Hydrogen Fuel Cell Generators Work

Hydrogen generators are relatively simple devices which allow you to separate water from its two main elements (hydrogen and Oxygen). This is done through an electrolysis process creating what we now call hho gas or hydroxy gas. This gas can then be feed through various types of vehicles to help increase its fuel efficiency. There are a number a different fuel cell energy devices. One main type is the dry cell hydrogen generator. The dry cell hydrogen generator is the more efficient of the two types of generators. The other is the wet cell generator.

Dry Cell Hydrogen Generator

A dry cell generator is typically conducted using steel plates. The number of plates can very between its builder. On most cells there is six steel plates one positive, one negative and 4 natural plates. Now depending upon the type of vehicle the dry cell will be going on the plates may need to be increased. Since larger motors would need a larger source of hho in order to get the maximum amount of efficiency.

HHO Dry Cell Parts

* Steel Plates

* Water Reservoir

* Bubbler

* Mounting Brackets

* Tubing and Wiring

These are just the main parts needed to construct your device. However there are actually several other parts we have left out like the spacers, bolts, plexiglass and many others. Instead of boring you with the full schematics of everything that is needed. It is best to give you a basic break down of what is needed to build a hydrogen fuel cell generator.

The Benefits of Hydrogen Fuel Cells

These devices come with a wide range of benefits one of which is a nice tax incentive. The tax incentive can be implemented this coming tax season just as soon as you have installed the device. The amount one could receive varies but users of these devices have gotten upwards of two thousand dollars off their income taxes just for installing the device on one of their vehicles. Another advantage of using fuel cell energy is that its ten times safer for the environment. This is because hydrogen burns hotter then regular gas/diesel. Not to mention the only emissions emitted from these devices is water its self.

This is not saying that you can completely run your current vehicle off of nothing but the fuel cell. Instead you will be creating a hybrid car out of your current vehicle. So instead of going out and buying a brand new vehicle …

Hydrogen Fuel Cells – A Working Green Solution!

Hydrogen Fuel Cells – A Working Green Solution!

Hydrogen Fuel Cells are currently being implemented as fuel assist devices for diesel combustion engines. These fuel cells are:

1. Saving fuel.

2. Increasing power, or torque.

3. Decrease in emissions.

4. Engine running cooler.

5. Reduction in engine maintenance.

That means saving money, and in these economic times, we have a win-win situation.

The environment wins, and the consumer wins. Hydrogen fuel cell assist devices do this by creating a more efficient burn of the diesel fuel. This same technology may very well work for gasoline combustion engines as well, but I know it works with the diesel engines.

A simple fuel cell can be made by doing the following:

• Fill a small glass jar about 3/4 full of water.

• Dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in the water. The baking soda will help conduct the electricity through the water.

• Put a thin piece of cardboard over the opening of the jar.

• Insert into the cardboard 2 thin electrical wires about 2 inches apart in a manner such that one end of each of the wires is submerged 2 to 3 inches.

• Wrap the other ends of the wires around the positive and negative terminals of a 9-volt battery. Bubbles will soon begin to accumulate on the submerged ends of the wires. Hydrogen gas on the negative wire and oxygen on the positive wire.

This is a simple way you can build your own fuel cell, and create fuel cell energy!

• CAUTION: Hydrogen and Oxygen are extremely explosive. Do not trap it for a period of time, and then ignite it. If you are determined to ignite to prove its existence, protect yourself from the loud noise and possible explosion.

However, many people can demonstrate the production of hydrogen through this simple alkaline bath process, and many people are moving this simple technology forward in a more robust way, but… they are not getting consistent, long term results when using the alkalyzer for splitting off the hydrogen and oxygen from the water.

Others that I am aware of are getting consistent results with the processes they are using. A simplification of the process is… electricity from the battery in, hydrogen and oxygen out, with nothing more than pure distilled water as the fuel. Inject these two gases separately into the air intake of an internal combustion diesel engine “on demand.

No hydrogen storage tank problems.

No safety issues. This fuel cell is only producing hydrogen when the engine is running.

Result: about 17% power increase. Emissions lowered dramatically. Fuel savings of 20 to 30 percent.

This is not as “green” a solution, but it is real, and is happening. It becomes a huge problem for “Big Oil” if this technology continues beyond fuel assist devices. How do you sell distilled water at the fuel bowser?

A lot more research and development is needed to get the consistent results from this green technology, but there are …

Fuel Containment – Keep Messy Spills at Bay by Containing Fuel Properly

Fuel Containment – Keep Messy Spills at Bay by Containing Fuel Properly

Have you ever had a fuel spill and had difficulty cleaning it up? Most likely, you found it time consuming and very messy. It would have been beneficial on a number of levels had you been prepared.

Just about any industrial facility has fuel within its equipment or its vehicles. That means it needs to have preventative tools on hand for emergency fuel containment.

When fuel is not quickly contained as soon as a spill occurs, it can contaminate the groundwater outside of the facility, and it can cause long term damage within it. Your flooring and equipment can be damaged, causing you to have to repair or replace them.

Through proper fuel containment, you’ll find you save money on floor, equipment, and/or merchandise repairs because the fuel doesn’t come into contact with these items. And even if it does, it won’t be for long periods of time.

While it may be hard to avoid that the floor is affected, you can use a tool such as an Emergency Fuel Spill Containment Pop Up Pool for fuel containment to minimize the damage.

An Emergency Fuel Spill Containment Pop Up Pool is so compact that you can tuck it away in very small spaces, such as spill stations, so that it is out of the way of facility staff. At the same time, it will be easy to access when needed. These pools are frequently used within the fuel industry.

This fuel containment tool may appear fabric-like, but it is actually made of high-density polyethylene and is highly durable despite its light weight. Its low-density coating makes it resistant against gasoline, diesel, acid and other hazardous chemicals.

You can easily monitor how full the pool is because of its see-through material. This will help you to prevent overflow.

The pop up pool is very effective for truckers as well as mobile equipment within a warehouse, retail, or factory environment. Anytime a tank may spring a leak, the pop up pool can be placed under the leaking tank. This saves a lot of money on clean up costs and potential.

Its features include the following:

1) Compact and very easy to use

2) Will not split or crack

3) Chemical, rust, and UV resistant

4) Economical

5) Can be stored in a small space, such as a spill station

6) Spill capacity can range from 20 gallons to 150 gallons

7) Weight of each pop up pool can range from 2 pounds to 5 pounds

8) Very affordable.

So when you need an effective fuel containment product, the Emergency Fuel Spill Containment Pop Up Pool can prove to be just that – effective. The investment itself is reasonable, especially when you compare the cost of the product to the cost of cleaning up a fuel spill and repairing the damage.…

I Am Not Going to Pay Them 150 Bucks to Do an Oil Flush He Said

“I Am Not Going to Pay Them 150 Bucks to Do an Oil Flush” He Said

It costs lots of money to properly maintain your automobile as per the owner’s manual, and if you don’t there is a good chance you can void the warranty. This is why I always recommend keeping a little maintenance log book in the glove box and to document all you do, plus keep the receipts – whether you do it yourself or pay someone else.

Not long ago, I was discussing car maintenance with a buddy of mine, yes, he bought me a cup of Starbucks, so, what the heck, let him pick the subject, I mean, I went there to hang out and have good conversation, so it’s all good. As we were talking about the costs of maintaining his car he said; “Well, I can tell you this much, I’m not going to pay them guys no $150 smackeroonies to do an Oil Flush, after they gouge me some $39.00 for an oil change, and when my wife took her car in, it cost her $89 and change for god knows what deluxe up-sell package they sold her.”

“You know,” I told him; did you realize that you can do your own oil flush without paying an auto garage or oil change facility to do it? It’s true and you can save quite a bit of money too, some oil flushes cost upwards of $100 to $180 and in reality they are relatively simple to perform. If you have an older car, especially one which uses oil between changes it is a good idea to do this once a year or so.

Below are some tips on doing your own oil flush and saving a good chunk of change for yourself;

1. Run your car for about 10-minutes.

2. Drain the oil and remove the filter as if you were doing a regular oil change

3. Drain the oil filter, and pour some diesel fuel inside and shake it around and then dump it out into the oil pan, where you drained the engine oil.

4. Replace your old oil filter that you rinsed out with diesel fuel.

5. Put oil plug back in

6. Put fuel into the engine – just a little more than if you were putting in the new oil

7. Turn your car on and run it for 30 seconds to 1-minute.

8. Remove the oil filter and throw it out.

9. Drain the diesel fuel out of your car’s engine.

10. Put oil plug back in.

11. Install a new oil filter.

12. Put in the proper number of quarts of fresh oil as per the operations manual of your car.

As you can see, you can do this yourself and save up to $180. If you have a car that you’ve taken good care of and it has under 75,000 miles and doesn’t use oil between changes, then you most likely do not need an …

Will E15 Become the Law of the Land?

Will E15 Become the Law of the Land?

New fuel could pose problems for some engines.

Changes may be coming to a gasoline pump near you if federal regulators and the ethanol lobby have their way. Both groups are pushing for a higher blend of ethanol fuel to be mixed in with gasoline, a concoction that will equal 15 percent ethanol and 85 percent straight gasoline, best known as E15 fuel. That fuel, however, is not without controversy: car manufacturers are calling upon the Environmental Protection Agency to back off, claiming that vehicles using this fuel could suffer engine damage, effectively voiding owners’ car warranties.

E15 Push

The push to E15 comes from a group of midwestern farmers and ethanol producers responsible for growing corn and converting it into fuel. Today, more than 90 percent of all pumps offer E10 fuel, a relatively harmless byproduct. However, automakers warn that increasing that number to E15 could cause serious problems for some engines, something the EPA acknowledges, but only for older vehicles.

Indeed, gasoline pumps will be affixed with a sticker declaring that the new fuel is only for use in model year 2001 and newer vehicles or for any flex-fuel vehicle. Flex fuel vehicles contain special fuel lines that resist the corrosive nature of E85 fuel which consists of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent straight gasoline. Therefore, these vehicles can run on any combination of gas and ethanol safely. Not so with older vehicles and, according to the automakers, newer vehicles too.

Political Support

The EPA has the broad support of the Obama administration, which is looking for ways to reduce America’s dependency on foreign sources of fuel. However, the risk of using E15 is apparent as even the EPA concedes that some vehicles and engines cannot handle it. The EPA has said that the new fuel isn’t for use in motorcycles nor is it for certain off-road vehicles such as snowmobiles and all terrain vehicles. Moreover, consumers are being warned not to include E15 in their lawnmowers, snow blowers or leaf blowing equipment.

Members of Congress are looking at the problem closely and may stop or delay the EPA from allowing E15 fuel. One way that may be accomplished is to defund ethanol subsidies, effectively cutting the legs out from underneath the industry.

Mandated Use

If E15 becomes law, consumers will find out fairly fast if their engines are adversely affected. While a home grown fuel is certainly welcome, mandating its use in engines not outfitted properly seems not only misguided, but foolish.…

How to Save Gas – 8 Great Tips

How to Save Gas – 8 Great Tips

When money is tight we often look for simple ways to save cash. Cutting your gas bill down is a great way to start. But where to begin? Follow the simple steps below.

1. When out on the roads, avoid staying to close to the car in front of you. When they hit the breaks or slow down this will force you to hit the breaks too. My point? Accelerating uses much more gas than when you are driving at a constant speed.

2. When you park your car, try not to park in the sun. If possible, find some shade to park under. The reason for doing so is to prevent the car from heating up. When the car heats up the gas evaporates quicker. This means even when you are not driving you can lose quite a lot of fuel.

3. The more the car weighs, the more fuel it needs to accelerate. Try to empty your car as much as possible by getting rid of things that are not required like golf clubs and football equipment.

4. You should always plan your journeys in advance. Plenty of people take longer routes than needed. You can find the most fuel efficient routes using a sat-nav or an online route planner.

5. Make sure your tires are inflated correctly. You can find the correct tire pressure levels in the car owners manual. By doing so, you can increase your gas mileage by over 3%. This may not seem like much but when you add it up over a year you can see why it is worthwhile.

6. You can also buy a new, fuel efficient car. There are plenty of hybrid cars which can save you a heap load of cash on gas each month. Of course, this may not seem like the cheapest of options at first. However, over the period of a year or two the amount you save on your gas bill allows the new car to pay for itself.

7. Avoid idling as much as possible. Whenever you get out of your car to drop something off or post something, make sure you turn the cars engine off. It only takes a few seconds to turn it back on again so what is the point of wasting fuel idling?

8. Finally, make sure you use cruise control to your advantage. By maintaining a consistent level of speed you are saving a lot of money.…

How to Keep Your Manufacturing Area Clean

Manufacturing is an essential part of the global economy; without it, you wouldn’t be able to enjoy the things you take for granted. With the constant use of heavy machinery, factories are bound to get dirty. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you look after everyone’s health and safety and keep on top of the cleaning. This is coming under increasing scrutiny due to the global pandemic and the need to demonstrate cleanliness. If you’re looking for ways you can stay on top, then you have come to the right place.

Royalty-free image

Regular Equipment Maintenance and Cleaning

There is a lot of expensive and important equipment in factories, and keeping them well maintained is important. Your machinery will run safer and last longer if it is cleaned regularly. To do this, you will need to make sure your staff are trained properly and have the correct equipment. Some messy jobs can be made easier and safer by investing in a metalworking industrial vacuum. Further, due to the hazardous environment, make sure that you provide your staff with the correct PPE.

Staff Training

It is reported that 27% of work-related injuries are caused by slips, trips, and falls. You can reduce your contribution to this statistic by making sure that your facility is clean and safe.

Training your employees to constantly be alert and aware of their surroundings will go a long way. You can teach them to get into the habit of reporting and hazards they come across straight away, meaning you can act swiftly to prevent accidents. Further, you can get your employees into the attitude of fixing some hazards themselves rather than leaving it to the next person, which will only prolong the danger.

Organization is Key

When designing a manufacturing facility, organization should be a top priority. Ensuring that everything your employees could need has a designated and sensible home will help you to encourage and keep a clean workplace. Not only will this increase productivity but it will reduce the likelihood of accidents.

Minimized Movements

We’ve taken a look at how important it is to keep the factory clean from physical hazards, but what about people? When your employees are hard at work, the last thing you want is to cause accidents because pathways are overcrowded. When you are laying out your factory, make sure that the distance between work areas is as short as possible. This will mean that groups assigned to certain jobs will not need to travel far away from their area.

A Note on Covid-19

Cleaning should always have been a top priority, but it is even more so now. Ensure you have your back covered by providing your staff with PPE, soap, and sanitizers all in abundance, and provide ample signage about handwashing procedures.

As you can see, there is a lot involved in maintaining a clean workplace. The most important aspect to take away is that it takes a full team to ensure constant cleanliness, so …

The Production of Ethanol

The Production of Ethanol

Fuel prices are always a concern. This has led to increasing interest in alternative energy such as wind, solar and biofuels. Even though some consider biofuel to be something new, biofuels have actually been produced by humans for many thousands of years. This is because biofuels are so easy to make. It’s possible to produce biofuels from any vegetable that contains a significant amount of sugar, or contains ingredients that are convertible into sugar, such as starch and cellulose. You could also create sugar from the starch in corn, however it will take longer in converting the starch.

If you ever wanted to know how biofuels are created, here’s a simple rundown:

1) Take your grain, for example corn or wheat, and grind it down until the starch is exposed.

2) Mix all of this with water.

3) Take this mass and cook it briefly, adding the enzymes that will convert the starch into sugar. This is a process known as hydrolysis.

4) Throw in some yeast, which will cause the fermentation you need to manufacture ethanol.

5) Separate the ethanol from the other materials with distillation.

And then you’re done! There are many websites currently on the internet that show ways to produce ethanol at home, and these are in fact accurate. Though it’s a lot of work to do this, and it’s not very cost or time effective. There is currently a great amount of research going on into the production methods of biofuels. There is research underway at the moment to try and find ways to produce ethanol from less costly sources than grains, namely the cellulose that’s found within these grains.

However, this is not easy. There are many more complex procedures that have to take place involving pretreatment and hydrolysis, before the fermentation required can occur. One of the major benefits of using different sources for the production of biofuels will be that food sources are not overly used, causing hunger problems in areas that may be susceptible to this.

Fermentation is caused by the organism known as yeast. Yeast is commonly known as a major ingredient in bread, it’s the ingredient that causes the bread to rise. This rising is caused by carbon dioxide gas. Now, yeast is an anaerobic organism, which means it can survive without oxygen. Yeast lives on sugar, same as humans, but it’s unable to consume all of the energy retained in the sugar. While energy is being absorbed and sugar partially digested by the yeast, the sugar is converted into both carbon dioxide and ethanol.

Unfortunately, we can’t just go ahead and make ethanol with our bread at home. We don’t have enough sugar to make a significant amount. Countries like Brazil, however, have been using biofuels for a long time due to their high production rates of sugar cane. Some commercial ethanol is produced from a byproduct of gasoline, but most comes from yeast. Corn is far more plentiful in America then sugar cane, …

GM’s Bare Necessity Truck Concept – The Future of Trucks? Fuel Economy Trends in the Truck Industry

GM’s Bare Necessity Truck Concept – The Future of Trucks? Fuel Economy Trends in the Truck Industry

There may be a new “green” truck hitting the market in the future – albeit not the immediate future – and it’s got a new twist to the economical initiatives we’ve been seeing from the auto industry. GM’s Bare Necessity Truck concept is a pickup truck with the idea of stripping out all of the unnecessary features that make trucks inefficient for many uses, but still providing all the features that truck owners need. Here’s the general idea: It’s a smaller truck, with a hybrid gas electric engine (not unlike many other vehicles out there). The real difference come in the bed length vs. cab room debate – this truck will have a reversible bulkhead that flips 180 degrees, allowing a shift of 2 feet of space either to the cab or to the bed, depending on the need at the time.

The initial response about this truck has been mostly positive, as most people want to get behind an idea that will be more efficient, economical and environmentally friendly. But is this the right truck for enough people to make a difference? Some of the questions: What if you need bed space and cab space at the same time? Will it have enough hauling and towing capacity? How much will it cost? How do I fit a tonneau cover on it?

Nationwide, gas prices have increased an average of $0.16 a gallon over the last two weeks, to $2.77 for midgrade gas. While this is still considerably lower than the $3.97 average at this time last year, it has spurred a renewed interest in gas savings opportunities, particularly among truck and SUV owners.

One popular option for increased fuel economy has been purchasing a hybrid gas/electric vehicle – and while small hybrid vehicles, and even SUVs, have been around for years now, auto manufacturers are now finally producing full-sized hybrid trucks. Available from GM is the Chevy Silverado Hybrid and the GMC Sierra Hybrid, and in 2010 the Dodge Ram Hybrid will hit the market, so GM’s Bare Necessity concept isn’t breaking new ground in that area. The trouble with hybrid vehicles is that they while improving fuel economy up to 25%, the cost of these vehicles can be he neighborhood $10,000 or more greater than the price of a non-hybrid model. This price premium generally more than offsets any savings from decreased fuel costs for many years of owning the vehicle.

So where do we turn for some fuel savings, if we need a truck and don’t want to shell out $10,000 extra for a hybrid? Well, a simple answer is to get a performance tuner. Your truck’s own engine can see increased performance and gas savings at the same time, just by programming it to perform in whatever way suits your driving needs rather than the default factory programming. Brands like Hypertech have models, such as the Max Energy E-Con, …

Storing Your Pressure Washer With Regular Shamrock Gas For Winter

Storing Your Pressure Washer With Regular Shamrock Gas For Winter

Winter storage for all of your gasoline or diesel engine equipment is the focus of this article. I don’t know about everyone else, but I personally have more equipment with small engines than I first realized. After thinking about it a little I soon realized there was more stuff around here than meets the Eye. Lets see here now. Well there’s the emergency generator, the compressor, the pressure washer, the tiller, the push lawn mower, the riding mower, the four wheeler, and the chain saw.

These items, or pieces of equipment are all going to need some attention. Nothing serious but, important, never the less. The problem with all these small engine equipped life savers is the fact that you didn’t realize how many you really owned and now you’ve got to weatherize all of them.

Not to fear its nothing complicated. Nothing you can’t handle. Anyone with a little common sense can handle the task at hand. A little common sense, and 30 or 40 minutes and you will be prepared for mother natures worst case scenario.

To explain this in the most simplest terms. The reason we must prepare the equipment for winter is because the fuel will go bad, and when it goes bad it is going bad in the carburetor or throttle body, fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel filter, fuel pump and all through the fuel system. This gasoline turns to a thick varnish smelling residue, if left too long.

The way most manufactures are recommending, is to put in an additive. This additive is made especially for winter storage of small engine equipped Items. There are numerous makers of these additives but, one is probably good as the others.

The way I recommend is to go ahead and put the fuel additive in. They usually recommend to a full tank. Now like I said this is the way I do It. I Install the additive, turn the fuel off, coming out of the fuel tank. now start and run the machine till it dies from lack of fuel. Now the carburetor is dry and you can put it up for the winter.

With most of these additives all that is actually absolutely necessary is to put the additive in and run the engine a few minutes to insure the additive has reached all the components.

One very good additive is called Red line.…

Understanding Warehouse Software

Understanding Warehouse Software

If you own or work in a warehouse, you know the importance of categorizing and maintaining a proper inventory of all your stored items. Implementing an efficient system for correctly itemizing the products can be an extremely difficult task, especially if you are using the traditional pencil and paper method. But over the years, modern computer inventory and categorization software systems have been developed to help you organize your inventory and keep accurate records. These warehouse software systems can be tremendously beneficial to the smallest of storage facilities to the largest warehouse distribution centers.

There are two major warehouse management software systems that are prominent in today’s storage facilities. One is a program that is installed on your typical Microsoft Windows computer operating system and runs along side Microsoft Access. The other is a database software system that runs as a standalone program that can easily integrate with your computer systems.

Using bar codes on your inventory is the most efficient way to keep accurate records of what you have in storage. Scanners can read the bar codes and display all the pertinent and related information about what is contained inside the box. A software system can display all the important information contained in the bar code and let you know where the item is located and how many are in stock. This is particularly beneficial for reverse look-ups, when you want to know the contents of the container without having to locate the box and open it up so you can look inside.

Depending on the size of your warehouse, you may need an exceptionally powerful warehouse management software system. There are software systems that can easily handle the smallest of warehouses to the hundreds of thousands of square feet of a large warehouse (or multiple warehouses) and accurately account for the entire inventory stored within.

Using warehouse management software will allow you to cut costs, especially in labor, because you won’t need a large staff to keep track of your inventory. You can replace your pencil and paper with a sophisticated computer software program. Be sure to employ the help of a software technician incase the software needs upgrades or maintenance.

A warehouse management software program will enable you to quickly find your stored goods and get them distributed efficiently, cutting the risk of mistakes that a person may make. Your warehouse business can prosper and your workforce will be satisfied because they will be able to quickly retrieve inventory and have a pinpoint accurate database of information about the products in storage.

If you are looking to cut down on costly and time-consuming mistakes, save money, increase productivity and raise efficiency in your storage and distribution business, look into implementing a warehouse management software system.…

An Overview On Inventory Software

An Overview On Inventory Software

An Inventory software, also referred to as inventory management software, refers to a business application designed to manage and keep track of material purchases, production processes, product delivery reports and product sales. It goes a long way in helping businesses acquire the materials required to produce finished products required by customers. These programs utilize tracking systems and bar codes to completely account for the storage and shipping segments during the process of production.

Uses

The programs can also be utilized in manufacturing industries to create material bills, documents related to production and work orders. Companies utilize these soft wares to do away with product outages and over stock. They are tools utilized in the organization of inventory data which was initially stored using spreadsheet programs.

The tracking program gives a company the opportunity to see the arrival time of shipped materials, the duration of each production stage, the speeds at which products leave warehouses and the final destination. The term used to define the program is a general term. This is precisely because it refers to the particular program owned by a specific warehouse.

It may similarly refer to the program that carries out the monitoring process in the whole sales side and the supply chain of the company. A large number of businesses use this program in a bid to minimize the effort used during basic tracking. This further helps in creating more time to improve and analyze overall processes.

In the event that the business owned by a person is associated with commodity supplies and stocks, the person in question has to count the stocks and make an inventory. Without the utilization of modern computing technologies, record keeping would be extremely difficult. The same applies to lack of knowledge on the information regarding the stock. Nowadays, several organizations which specialize in application development offer customers business optimization applications which help in the efficient management of stocks and in the drawing up of inventories.

A professional application development organization can develop specific applications used in maintaining and making inventories. This helps a great deal in reducing the workforce and doing away with the huge piles of papers. Through the use of such applications, users are capable of entering items into inventory record systems, sell them, write them off and even relocate them to other branches or warehouses.

Basic operation

Each item transferred is automatically fixed during the registration period. Professional application developers have the ability to develop and implement application programs used in maintaining stored items. This allows stock takers to analyze all the activities carried out specifically by the company and separately by warehouses.

Conclusion

The development of a record keeping program can greatly benefit a person or organization. This is vital because of the highly competitive environment we live in. Some program development organizations have great experience as far as record keeping is concerned. Therefore, utilizing program development ideas and solutions offered only by program developers help a lot in saving time …

Should You Invest in a Trek Top Fuel 9.9 SSL?

Should You Invest in a Trek Top Fuel 9.9 SSL?

If you are contemplating this decision, you probably do more riding than the average person. You probably already own a mountain bike and perhaps not your first. Now you’ve reached a point with your riding that it’s time to take the experience up a notch. Maybe you are looking for better handling, braking, shifting, suspension, geometrics or likely a combination of these. You’ve eyed the Trek 9.9 and wondering if this is the right bike for you.

The Trek 9.9 is a racing cross country bike. Or an XC for short, meaning cross country. One of it’s most outstanding features is the sheer amount of carbon making up the bike. From rims, to seatpost, frame, to handlebars, this bike is all about carbon. Trek has created their own blend of carbon known as OCLV Mountain. Trek’s carbon allows the frame to take hits from debris without cracking or denting, resulting in a longer lasting frame. Carbon is also much lighter compared to many alloy based frames.

A lighter frame means better acceleration. This is also true on uphills. Even from very little momentum, you are able to rocket uphill. This is mainly due to lightweight carbon components. It is also due to the bike’s high quality linkage (chainstay/seatstay attachment to frame), suspension and overall geometric design. These components provide an unparalleled level of handling in the bike. In addition to great acceleration, this also results in corners being taken very fast and with much control.

The Trek Top Fuel 9.9 SSL has 100mm of travel in its front suspension. This adds to the bike’s agility and ability to accelerate uphill from a low momentum position. The Bontrager XRO Team issued tires are also an important component of overall acceleration. Knobbies on these tires aren’t large allowing for fast rolling. Yet the tire is able to get enough bite for fast, controlled cornering and uphill climbing.

Some full suspension bikes come with locking suspension. This allows you to lock the suspension into its full travel position. Locking suspension is great for climbing, especially when having to stand up. Suspension engaged (not locked) while climbing can zap the power you’re applying to the pedals. However, having to stop and lock rear and front suspensions can be a drag. Then you must stop again at some point to unlock.

The Trek 9.9 has remote locking right on the handle bars. Right before you hit that uphill, flip the locking levers down with your thumbs. When you’re ready to unlock, just flick your wrist inward against the wide unlock lever.

If you simply need the best in cross country mountain biking and want to have no doubt about quality of components, the Trek Top Fuel 9.9 SSL may be the right bike for you.…

How Alternative Energy Sources Work

How Alternative Energy Sources Work

Alternative Energy Forms Successfully Developed

The traditional fossil fuels involve their burning for the production of energy. Alternative modes of energy are gaining substantial attention and popularity all across the globe for a variety of reasons. The alternative energy types are usually renewable, easy to use, cost-effective, and friendly to the environment. There are several types of alternative power available these days. Each mode has its peculiar advantages and disadvantages. However, sufficient development has been made in certain types of alternative energy — notably hydroelectricity, nuclear energy and solar power — to warrant the conclusion that the sovereignty of fossil fuels as the mainstay of humanity’s energy needs has little reason to continue indefinitely. This is all the more so because oil prices have maintained ca steady upward climb, and the consumption of fossil fuels is under the scanner for its believed detrimental effects on the environment.

Abundant Water: Excellent Energy Source

Hydroelectricity accounts for about 90 percent of the global energy produced from renewable sources, as well as nearly 20 percent of the overall electricity produced worldwide. Hydel power stems from the force with which water falls. Dams are constructed to store water, which is directed to fall down from an enormous height to move turbines that generate electricity. This mode of alternative energy is among the most ancient, widely used and popular forms available. It has proven effective in meeting the energy requirements of huge populations at cheap rates.

Each With Its Own Paraphernalia

Alternative Energy forms are a motley category and include several different modes that vary markedly from one another. Hence, to discuss how these energy sources work, no general pattern can be outlines. Each energy source mandates its own set of principles and mode of functioning. However, we may well briefly study a few of these sources of power as follows.

Solar energy is a ubiquitous alternative energy form that can be tapped with the means of solar panels, solar calculators and photovoltaic cells. Solar energy finds applications in warming homes and in generating electricity. The solar technologies are categorized into active solar and passive solar, based on the mode adopted for the capture, conversion and distribution of sunlight. Active solar methods use photovoltaic panels and other mechanical gadgets to transform the sun’s rays into more productive forms. Passive solar modes pertain to orienting a building towards the sun or choosing substances with better properties of dispersing light.

Wind energy employs the force of the moving winds to move turbines that lead to the generation of electricity. This alternative energy form is best located in places that are characterized by gusty winds. Windmills are built for the purpose of exploiting the power of the winds. The technology involved is simple and can be replicated anywhere windy with success.

Nuclear energy may be either nuclear fission or nuclear fusion. The former involves splitting of the atom, while the latter deals with the merger of atoms. Nuclear fission has been plagued by …

Are Our Nuclear Waste Sites Safe in the United States – Where Should I Live?

Are Our Nuclear Waste Sites Safe in the United States – Where Should I Live?

Nuclear disposal is a serious issue indeed, but luckily new future technology appears to be ready to go which will allow those spent fuel rods to be used down to under 5%, that mean we will have a lot less waste to deal with, and it means that old plants can sell their spent fuel rods to new plants which can then use that material even more, almost like getting free fuel, perhaps the ultimate in recycling schemes. Still, there have been some unfortunate stories of ground water contamination from runoff of nuclear storage facilities in the past, and so it might be worthy to discuss this.

Not long ago, I was discussing the challenges of all this and what it meant for those who wished to live near or downstream from such facilities. Yes, it is a concern for many. So, where is the safest place in the US to live? Well, I’d always considered the coast line mountain range where the redwood trees grow somewhere between Humboldt County CA and Mid Oregon, but what about the radiation fallout from Japan, it has blown across the Pacific Ocean. Well, sure but due to precipitation most falls back into the ocean along the way. Okay what about the ocean debris and radiated water in that normal ocean current? Yes, something to watch, and I perhaps would go around collecting Japanese debris which has floated over here, you never know.

How about the Hanford WA site? What about fires potentially making it all airborne? Well, I seriously wouldn’t worry about the coastline area where I noted was the safest, as the wind patterns flow either South or East depending on the season, so the coastline between Eureka CA and Mid Oregon at an elevation of 350 feet or higher, perhaps at the top of the range between I-5 and the coast where there is a lake would be best. It should be fine even if the Hanford WA site had a major leakage becoming airborne.

There have been reports of radiation leaking into the upper Colorado River from Moab UT, also ground water leakage in Kentucky. Some are worried about underground ground water outside of Yucca Mountain NV, the proverbial 100-year flood and saturated ground water. Should we all be alarmed? Well, remember our government is somewhat anal when it comes to nuclear waste and the conspiracy theorist environmental crowd goes overboard such as in Moab UT, Yucca Mountain NV and Kentucky.

That’s not to say that they aren’t terrorist targets or they don’t have folks going out of their way to prove a point as that is always an issue. Still, the public should also realize that with all the environmental groups out there causing a stink, and the regulatory agencies watching like hawks, that things are not as dangerous as they’ve been made out to be. Please consider all this and think on it.…

Car Envy, Bentley Turning Green by Switching to Bio-Fuel

Car Envy, Bentley Turning Green by Switching to Bio-Fuel

One of the pinnacles of the luxury car market sees one of the most evocative and “?ber-chic” car marques’ turning green for the sake of the environment and global pressure, with a view to reducing its carbon foot print (or tyre tracks), thus improving Bentley Motor Cars environmentally green credentials.

The move by Bentley to head down a greener road was brought about in by the motor company’s announcement made in February 2008 as an initiative to address the ever-increasing demand for fuel efficient, lower emission vehicles which has been mounted around ever-fluctuating oil prices and publicly increased concerns about the impact of climate change on the environment we live in.

The Crewe-based Volkswagen-owned company are using this initiative strategy which is currently being progressively implemented throughout the Bentley motor company’s range which are now producing a new range of engines which will offer a 40 per cent improvement in fuel economy and due to be fully implemented by 2012. The new engine-technology or ‘flex-fuel’ system as it’s known as, will allow vehicles to be able to run on the plant-derived fuels, but this will also allow the vehicles to run on conventional petrol as well.

An adoption of alternative fuels (like Bio-ethanol) and new technologies are nothing new, although Bentley state that they want to be consciously and responsibly producing car’s with an aim in helping to reduce CO2 emissions and whilst focusing efforts of global dependency on fossil fuels. All with a purpose of using sustainably produced bio-fuel options for the running environmentally sympathetic luxury cars in the modern age of motoring.

Even both of the HRH the Queen’s car’s have now been converted by Bentley to run on bio-fuels in an attempt to reduce the impact of fossil fuel consumption and obviously it looks good in the public eye too, if we are all having to address the matter of environmental sustainable motoring.

Running on Bio-fuels is not the only “Green method” employed at the Bentley factory in Crewe, as many parts and materials used in the car’s production are manufactured from and use recycled materials throughout the current range of luxury vehicles. For example, the use of shredded re-cycled fabrics being used in the manufacture of the seats and door insulation also recycled aluminium in parts of the dashboard. Bentley motor company also claims that their cars are up to 85% recyclable.

Don’t think for one minute that a bio-fuel powered Bentley has anymore less performance, as to prove the point and put the historic Bentley racing brand firmly back on the map, this year Bentley commissioned the help of four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen to attempt to break the World Speed Record on “Ice” on the frozen waters of the Baltic Sea off of the coast of Finland. He recorded speed of 205.48mph, whilst driving a Bentley Continental Supersports GTC, so it’s no slouch!…

Inventory Management Software Is Crucial For Companies That Manufacture Products

Inventory Management Software Is Crucial For Companies That Manufacture Products

Inventory management software is going to be valuable to different types of businesses for different reasons. What’s being focused on in this article are those businesses that not only carry inventory, but also use it to manufacture the end product.

These companies may have several ways of running things, but these methods can be outdated and be costing them a lot in the long run.

You see a company that also has to manufacture their products is in a much more vulnerable position than a company that holds a completed product. A manufacturer will need to make sure they have all the needed materials in order to do this.

This is going to include raw materials, components, as well as subassemblies. At all times they will need to have the right amount of each individual component.

Bad inventory management means running out of components at critical times, because running out of even one of these components can have very negative results. The main one being it is going to prevent a business from being able to create the products they need in order to supply other businesses or customers.

Only when companies have all the components they need will they be able to finish manufacturing their goods. Inventory management software will make sure businesses are never put in this position.

There are other additional benefits to having inventory management software for a businesses that manufacture products. Usually several machines are used in the manufacturing process.

Each one of these machines can deal in a different phase of the manufacturing process. These machines cost a lot of money to maintain and in order to achieve maximum efficiency they must be kept running during certain times.

If one part is missing from the manufacturing process this means the entire operation is going to be shut down. No further production can take place. The downtime it is going to take to get these products on hand can seriously impact the overall profitability of the business. This is also going to hurt any supplier or big client who is dependent upon them.

Not having this inventory software can mean you develop a bad reputation in the long run and the last thing any business wants is to develop a reputation for not being dependable and reliable when it comes to supplying needed materials and or finished products.

Odds are clients would choose to go elsewhere and it will be extremely hard for any manufacturer to survive taking such losses. Inventory management software allows you to set up an inventory management system so you always know you have needed materials on hand.

The right tools at the manufacturing level are more important than any other level because at the manufacturing level inventory management is probably the most important.

This is going to prove to be very pivotal that every step that can be taken is taken. Not having an effective system in place has a …

Inventory Software Can Help You Pinpoint Weak Spots In Your Inventory Management System – Here’s Why

Inventory Software Can Help You Pinpoint Weak Spots In Your Inventory Management System – Here’s Why

The survival of your business is going to be dependent on more than just your ability to make money. Yes, being profitable is a good thing, but you have to understand what is truly making your profitable.

This is not going to be because you have a great product alone. Changes are there will always be a product similar to yours that might be cheaper or even flat out better.

Inventory software will enable you to know what areas of your business needs to be focused in on in order to maximize profits or sustain them so your business is able to grow.

One area inventory software can help you out in would be when it comes to making sure costumers get their products on time. On time delivery is going to be crucial, because if it is bad it is going to hurt your reputation.

Now in order to ensure proper costumer deliver a business needs to know how much time they have in order to get the product to the customer. However, the business must understand all the things that can go wrong and cause the delivery time to be extended. If these things are not taken into account then it is going to cause all sorts of problems.

Inventory software will enable you to establish what is referred to as a lead time. Lead time is like a buffer between on time delivery and what might go wrong to get in the way of this.

Once you are able to establish a lead time you will be able to cut back on clients not getting orders when they need them. This is going to ensure on time delivery, repeat orders, and the building of a solid reputation.

If you run the type of business that also manufactures products, then you probably have to deal with a lot of machines that cost a lot of money in order to operate. These machines cannot be overused or underused.

Seeing as how they cost so much money to operate, fix, and sustain, you need to make sure they are giving you the most value possible.

Inventory software is going to help you know how much work you will need to release to the shop floor in order to make sure machines to do not run out of work during a production run.

This is going to be crucial, because sometimes machines will have problems if they have to stop too often and this leads to down time. Down time mean no production, which means reduced profits.

There are certain types of costs that inventory software will ensure you keep to a of the costs associated with inventory will need to be understood if you hope to be successful long term. You might have a good inventory management program set up now, but can you really rely on it?

The right software is going to …

Fossil Fuels Versus Renewable Energy

Fossil Fuels Versus Renewable Energy

There’s a lot of talk about fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas) and whether they should be replaced by renewable energy – energy that won’t run out, for example solar or wind power.

Often, renewable energy is viewed as being favoured only by ‘greenies’, and it is frequently considered to be more expensive and less efficient than energy from fossil fuels.

Let’s look at some of the criticisms of renewable energy.

Efficiency

Solar power and wind energy do not generate as much electricity per dollar spent as electricity from coal.

But they have a different cost structure to electricity from coal.

Coal is mined using the cheapest methods possible (for example, lopping the tops of mountains), without massive concern about cleaning up afterwards, unless it’s mandatory. Then it’s used to generate electricity and the waste products are dumped into the air for free (imposing the costs on others). (That’s quite a subsidy!).

That’s one of the reasons why it’s difficult for renewable energy to compete – it shows all its costs, while fossil fuels don’t always show all of theirs. We’re not comparing apples with apples.

Also, oil originally wasn’t efficient when it was first used. Only research and development, and investment, helped it to become what it is today.

It’s easy to forget that ‘black gold’ (as oil was known) had a very rocky start. It was viewed with great scepticism and suspicion, and people said it couldn’t compete with coal.

It feels as though history is repeating itself with the arguments against renewable energy!

Cost

The obvious disadvantage of renewable energy is cost. Solar panels on my roof, for example, will take many years before the money us recouped. However, as the cost of fossil fuel electricity continues to rise around the world, this pay back time gets shorter. And once the panels are paid for, then your electricity is free!.

It is well known that fossil fuels receive considerably more money in direct subsidies, tax breaks and other concessions than renewable energy.

Again, this makes it more difficult for renewables to compete.

To put it very simplistically:

A If something costs $100, and it is subsidized $10, then its cost is $90.

A If something costs $100, and it is subsidized $60, then its cost only is $40.

The more heavily subsidized product seems cheaper.

Location

It’s not possible to generate solar and wind power everywhere. You need sunlight and you need the wind to blow.

The Problems with Fossil Fuels

Power plants emit huge quantities of pollutants into the air. Drilling for oil and transporting it carries the risk of oil spills. Renewable energy is much cleaner.

The cost of fossil fuel pollution-caused health care is huge – it’s a cost we shouldn’t be paying.

We won’t run out of sunlight (well, not for a few billion years, anyway). We will run out of oil and coal and natural gas. Already oil is more expensive to extract, because the sources of …

How Make Your Engine a Clean, Green, Efficient Machine

How Make Your Engine a Clean, Green, Efficient Machine

I am not an auto mechanic. Nor do I want to be one or have to visit one. I am the average Jane who owns a vehicle, drives it 20,000 miles a year, and hasn’t got a clue what I am looking at when I raise the hood. My vehicle happens to be paid for and I really don’t want a car payment again, or any large maintenance bills. I now have over 50,000 miles on my vehicle, the warranty has run out, and my goal is to make this vehicle last as long as possible.

I have been seeking a way to keep my engine running in tip top condition and get more miles per gallon. One article I read suggested a hydrogen fuel kit. All you need to do is add a water tank, run a wire from the battery into the water tank and then pipe a hose into the engine. Too much modification for me. I relate this option to be like having a stomach bypass surgery to loose weight rather than adjusting what I eat. I’m definitely looking for a less invasive solution.

Now I’m hooked on the idea of adjusting what my vehicle eats. Adding a dose of a fuel additive to my unleaded or diesel gas can provide various safety and financial benefits. Apparently your vehicles intake valves, fuel pump, fuel injectors and fuel lines can get coated with gum, varnish, lacquer and carbon coke over time from normal use. A fuel additive has a detergent that works to keep these engine parts clean and lubricated. The increased cleanliness and lubrication reduces friction and wear, enhancing combustion for a more complete burn. A more complete burn equals more miles per gallon and fewer emissions. We’ve all heard the latest hype on increasing metabolism to burn more calories from the food we eat. Well the fuel additive is how you can increase your vehicles metabolism.

My next question is which fuel additive would be safe to use, improve my miles per gallon rating, and improve the environment. Let’s face it no one wants to take something to increase their metabolism that’s going to give them the shakes, put them at risk for heart attack, or have them running for the toilet. I recommend choosing a fuel additive that has these 3 main requirements to protect you and your vehicle.

1.It is a Patented product

2.It is an EPA approved product

3.It is a Proven product

I am definitely in favor of the simple preventative maintenance plan going back to the old saying an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. A fuel additive can pay for itself with a 2%-3% miles per gallon increase and many boast the possibility of 5%-20% savings. There are all in one products available that work on gas and diesel as well an any type of engine(boats, RV’s, buses, generators, cars, trucks, etc.). Keep yourself smiling and in …

Pyroelectricity, Applications and Pyroelectric Sensors

Some materials are subjected to thermal energy change to produce electric energy. This property is known as pyroelectricity. When pyroelectric crystals are heated, they generate electricity because they have a pyroelectric effect. Pyroelectric materials polarize when subjected to heat or cold. An opposite polarity is generated by the crystal, creating a transient voltage.

Pyroelectric Materials Applications

Passive Infrared Sensor (PIR)

Passive infrared sensors detect anything that radiates thermal infrared radiation, such as human beings and animals. PIR sensors have pyroelectric materials that absorb thermal energy and generate equivalent electrical power. Human eyes can’t see the infrared waves radiated; hence they are used for automation and security applications.

Infrared Thermometer

Also known as pyrometers, and are used to take temperature measurements without contact. They are suitable to measure temperatures of items such as extremely hot substances or moving things. They are accurate and can measure a wide range of temperatures.

Laser Energy Sensors

A pyroelectric sensor is used to measure the power and energy of lasers. It is mostly preferred because they respond fast compared to other sensors. However, it can only measure pulsed energy with a repetition rate of 25kHz.

Pyroelectric Sensors

Pyroelectric sensors help to ensure that automated electronic devices work properly. Thus, these devices can be relied on because they are safe to use.

Sensors that take Advantage of Pyroelectric Effect

Motion Sensors

Infrared motion sensors are either passive or active. Active infrared sensors such as garage door security sensors work over a longer distance because the sensor and the infrared emitter can be far apart. Passive infrared sensors also detect motion directly from a source. They have sensitive sensors to detect infrared radiation.

Gas Sensors

Infrared pyroelectric sensors are used to detect and monitor gases. A sample of gas is used to detect the infrared wavelength. If the IR wavelength isn’t received, then the gas sample has another gas that absorbed it. Optical IR filters are used to tune sensors into specific wavelengths, and only a desired wavelength is achieved.

Food Sensors

Food-related substances are detected by calibrating food sensors. These substances include lactose, fat or sugar. These infrared sensors are used to monitor industrial processes depending on the IR optical filters used. Also, they can be used in various environments.

Flame Sensors

Flames can emit IR strongly; hence, it’s possible to construct them using pyroelectric sensing elements. They accurately detect and discriminate flame sources that compare ratios and wavelengths of their triple IR. They respond fast hence widely used in fire protection devices such as process control systems.

Features of Pyroelectric Infrared Sensors

  • High stability when subjected to temperature changes.
  • Strong immunity to noise such as vibrations
  • Slight movements are detectable.
  • High sensitivity
  • Reliable performance

Pyroelectric sensors work by taking advantage of certain materials. They provide sensitive and fast infrared sensors that are used in various industrial applications. They bring peace of mind because devices using these sensors are safe for use. They also ensure safety when used in garage doors and safe food when used …
